Does anyone know how to upgrade Twonky on the My Book Live from the worthless 5.1.9 to the newest version 6.0.30? I have tried but without success. This is what I did: Do not download the 'Linux ARM little' version but the 'Maxtor shared Storage 2'. Download at: Unzip in Windows and extract it to the Mybook WE White light Download folder (map) in a folder (map) called Twonky30 First BackUp the original Twonky Start putty Login as root password welc0me change directory to root cd / copy the directory to the Windows Download share cp -r /twonky /shares/Public/Software/twonky0 @ Windows: Backup the files from the Download share, or leave them as twonky0 (Original) copy from the original version (@twonky0) the next two files: - twonkymedia.sh - twonkyvision-mediaserver.ini to the twonky30 map.

@ putty now remove your old twonky from the mybook WE rm -r /twonky copy the new version cp -r /shares/Download/twonky30 /twonky chmod +x /twonky/twonkymedia.sh chmod +x /twonky/twonkymedia chmod +x /twonky/twonkymediaserver start twonky /twonky/twonkymedia.sh start and exit exit Please help - hope I havent bricked it. I can still acces the shares, but DLNA is not working any more - not even after a full factory restore.

I upgraded my TwonkyMedia Server on my MyBook Live from 5.1.9 to 6.0.32 today using the following version: I selected the PowerPC version since that's the machine hardware name that is returned when I run the uname command on my device: MyBookLive:# uname -a Linux MyBookLive 2.6.32.11-svn21605 #1 Fri Oct 15 17:13:23 PDT 2010 ppc GNU/Linux MyBookLive:# uname -m ppc To get this up and running only really involved a few simple steps (assuming you are familiar with navigating Linux): 1. Download TwonkyMedia Server 6.0.32 2. Copy the downloaded package to the /root directory on your MyBook Live device (e.g., using scp) 3.

Unzip the downloaded package in the /root directory 4. Create the following folder: /usr/local/twonkymedia-6.0.32 (NOTE: the original installed TwonkyMedia Server 5.1.9 is installed in /usr/local/twonkymedia-5) 5. Copy the following files and directories from /root to /usr/local/twonkymedia-6.0.32:. Linux-HowTo.txt.

RevisionHistory. cgi-bin/. plugins/. radio.m3u. resources/. twonkymedia. twonkymedia.sh (you don't really need this).

twonkymediaserver 6. Copy the following files from /usr/local/twonkymedia-5 to /usr/local/twonkymedia-6.0.32:. bgtrans. startbgtrans.sh.

twonkymedia-server-default.ini. twonkymedia-server-default.ini.orig 7. Copy the file /usr/local/sbin/share-param.sh to /usr/local/sbin/share-param.sh.orig to create a backup copy 8.VERY IMPORTANT STEP. Edit the /usr/local/sbin/share-param.sh file and set twonkydir=/usr/local/twonkymedia-6.0.32 9.

Restart the TwonkyMedia Server: /etc/init.d/twonky restart You should be able to verify that TwonkyMedia Server 6.0.32 is up and running at this point by pointing your browser to the TwonkyMedia Server config page or by going to the MyBook Live UI and viewing the settings page for TwonkyMedia (Settings Media Twonky Status). Either page should show the TwonkyMedia Server version as 6.0.32. If you ever need to switch back to 5.1.9 for any reason (which I have no idea why you would want to), just edit the share-param.sh.orig file and change the twokydir setting back to its original value (set in /usr/local/sbin/share-param.sh.orig) and restart Twonky (/etc/init.d/twonky restart). This version of TwonkyMedia Server requires a license after the 30-day trial period ends, but at least you have that amount of time to evaluate it.

I downloaded this version because I had problems streaming MKV video files from my MyBook Live device to my Samsung LED TV. I verified that this version resolves that issue. Hope this helps! Alias: Gordon.Gartrelle. Hi everybody, I just buy a new book for a friend and follow your tutorial ggartrelle, thanks for it!

But, you'll miss one thing for me (with last firmware), every time you reboot MyBookLive or restart Twonky, your share config is lost in Twonky 6. I search and found /usr/local/sbin/writeTwonkyContentDir.sh who seem's start at every start of Twonky (via web interface or when you reboot MyBookLive) and write over the previous config. (I think it works fine with Twonky 5 but not with 6) You can simply rename it to writeTwonkyContentDir.sh.old and all working fine. My way (little different of Gordon way), safer for 'newbie' (you don't have to edit any file) and faster (I don't use oldest file) Assuming you have a WD My Book Live with last firmware (01.03.03 at this time) and ssh activated. Gordon (and also david), I managed to follow your guide to upgrade Twonky. To be honest I hadn't tried to do anything like this but used the terminal window via cyberduck on Mac and it was really very easy. I would encourage other Novices reading this to give it a go.

Twonky Media Server Windows

Problem is: having upgraded to 6.0.32 I tried to play video on my samsung TV. Still the same problem of the never ending 'loading screen' TV locks and has to be unplugged. Thinking this may still be a Twonky issue I also manged to upgrade to 6.0.37 using the same method. Still not working however. I can get photos and other files to display on the TV but not video. Have tried mp4 and m4v files but no luck. Can anyone suggest anything else I could try?

My setup does not seem to correspond to instructions given here and I am stuck. Being a Windows user/programmer, I feel completely helpless I own a MyBook World Edition II ( white bar ) firmware 01.02.06 with MioNet 4.3.1.7 When I click 'New Firmware' button in the management web interface it responds with 'Your device is up to date.' I tried instructions listed above. Summary: cd /usr/local/ mv twonkymedia-5 twonky5old mkdir twonkymedia-5 cd twonkymedia-5 wget unzip twonkymedia-powerpc-glibc-2.2.5-6.0.32.zip mv /usr/local/sbin/writeTwonkyContentDir.sh /usr/local/sbin/writeTwonkyContentDir.sh.old reboot The second command did not work.

The 'twonky' folder ( not 'twonkymedia-5' ) is in '/', not in '/usr/local/' Fair enough, sign of some 'firmware' update maybe? I renamed the folder twonky to twonkyOLD, created the new one and downloaded the package, that went well. Now, problems start, probably very trivial for linux users The 'unzip' does not exists (unzip command not found ), whatever So I tried with gunzip with no success: gunzip -d -S.zip twonkymedia-powerpc-glibc-2.2.5-6.0.32.zip gunzip: twonkymedia-powerpc-glibc-2.2.5-6.0.32.zip has more than one entry — unchanged That's where I am now. How do I install unzip exactly and where? I tried 'ipkg unzip' listed somewhere, but ipkg is not found again.

I could not find unzip or ipkg in any folders on the drive Is there a way to install the unzip command from the web? Thanks, Michel, lost in space. Thanks for the clear instructions on updating Twonky server. I have a My Book Live, the problem now is that I cannot tie twonky to the existing share on my NAS that I have my videos in. I can upload the videos using the, and these videos are available to me through Twonky Manager and on my Samsung LED tv. My question is how can I get to the share that Twonky creates on my MyBook Live, I have tried Putty to navigate file system on my WD My Book Live Drive. Also I want to know how I can share this folder where twonky saves these files so that I can create a share and be able to to copy videos into this share using windows explorer.

Any help in this matter is appreciated, thanks again to all you guys for the wonderful posts. I spoke to twonky support who gave me a free licence key and I downloaded the latest version of Twonky that is compatible with the MyBook. I managed to back up and replace the old Twonky with the new one and I can now stream MKV files to my TV. I have two issues though: 1.

I cannot seek or search through these movies on the TV even though I can on the same files using my WDTV Live player. Any ideas what I need to change to get this functionality? I can save the provided licence key under Twonky and it shows as registered but if I reboot my MyBook, Twonky reverts back to unregistered with 30 days trial and I need to input this licence key again.

Any ideas how to save this licence permanently? Hi everyone, thank you also from my side for this really great upgrade instruction. I have a my book live and successfully upgraded to Twonky 6.0.34. However my situation is a little different to most of the users here I have a Sony Bravia KDL-52Z4500 and tried to stream mkv.-files from my my book live to my ps3 as this old Bravia does not support DLNA video streaming. After upgrading to Twonky 6.0.34 I thought the my book live would stream the mkv.-files to the ps3 which then is able to play it, but on the ps3 it always says 'incompatible data' I also tried other forums on the web, but couldn't find an answer to my problem and found you gyus to be the most competent advisors. I am really a novice in this and just bought the my book live with the hope of not having to use my PC with PS3 mediaserver for streaming.

If anyone could help me I would be more than grateful! Than you very much!!! There has to be another solution then to use mkv2vob for all my mkv-files to play on the ps3 over my book live.
