Anybody who's ever done the 'Macarena'—or refused to do it out of sheer disgust—is familiar with the concept of a one-hit wonder. But what makes a hip-hop one-hit wonder? When VH1 made its list of 100 One-Hit Wonders ten years ago, they included songs like the 1990 chart-topper 'Ice Ice Baby,' despite the fact that Vanilla Ice had another Top 10 hit that same year with 'Play That Funky Music.' They even included Biz Markie, one of the most important creative forces in the Juice Crew and a giant of hip-hop culture. One-hit wonder?

The usual definition of a 'hit' is a Top 40 single, but with rap it's not that simple. Especially in its earlier years, the genre was essentially street music, poorly represented on radio and the charts. Many classic records would not be considered a hit at all by mainstream standards. By the same token, many classic acts like De La Soul and Digital Underground had huge career-defining chart hits ('Me Myself & I' and 'The Humpty Dance,' respectively) but still enjoyed rich and productive careers. You won't find them on this list. Nor will you find Gerardo's 'Rico Suave' or Partners in Kryme's ' on here because, frankly, they suck.

Jock Jams CD Vol. 4 ESPN Enterprises and Tommy Boy have collaborated again for the release of Jock Jams, Volume 4, a follow-up album to the platinum successes of Jock Jams, Volumes 1, 2 and 3.

We know Complex readers demand a more sophisticated approach, so we dug deep in the crates to bring you this list of the 100 Best One-Hit Wonders. Thank us later. RELATED: Written by Paul Cantor.

Over the last few months, I find that fewer and fewer songs come out at this tempo and even a smaller number of them are a good dance floor heaters. Even though I don't believing in strictly mixng just for sake of mixing to up in BPM, I think this is a great tempo to get your dance on to Top 40 songs. So, I'd like to get myself out of a rut of playing the same 'ol songs I have been stuck on lately. Some stuff that I still end up playing pretty regularly - Tambourine Headsprung Yeah Stronger Cholo Shake That Salt Shaker Get Low Goodies Get Busy This Is How We Do It More to come, but feel free to contribue with some good songs that would work with the mainstream crowd. Not that i have to justify anything to you all.

But most of my reggae comes straight from Jamaica, most of my mashups come straight from the producer, and most of the pop crap, comes from record pools. Some of it has been downloaded legally and other have been ripped from vinyl or cd. And some of it was acquired 'other ways' but you know what, you guys are all getting to big for your own good.

You need to take it down a notch. Look at that play list and realize that I could school most of you with a set that would blow peoples minds. And YES I PLAY ACCAPELLAS. Take it for what you will. I really dont know who you guys think your talking too. But for the ones with the big mouths, your F&.#ED. A couple of rock songs to add.

Billy Squier - The Stroke -The beat is huge (it's about 91 BPM), and people know it despite the fact it's a rock song from 1980 or so. You can mix it between some hip-hop and it mixes great with 'I Love Rock & Roll'. Modest Mouse - Float On - 102 BPM or so. Bouncy track - you can play it early in the night and it's in a similar key to 'Stronger' by Kanye for easy mixing. The Offspring - Self Esteem - 104 BPM or so. Classic alternative rock track.

Obviously this isn't one you'd play in the hip hop rooms, but it's a good one in a top 40 room to break up the night a bit. All the mid-20s kids should know it.
