Said by: The rollup update works, but it might have disabled Windows Update on Windows 2000. If so, probably was done on purpose, since this is the last update before W2K is 'obsoleted' by Microsoft. After installing the update WU 6.0 just comes up with a blank screen now. Anybody else getting this, or is it just me??

Nope, I Installed the W2k Rollup, and I'm happy to report that all is well, programs works windows update works fine as well, you may want to reinstall the new windows update 6.0 as well as the Rollup! I was doing a re-install of 2000 server last night after a hard drive failure, and after a successful install, and applying sp4 and ie6sp1, I went ahead and grabbed all the other critical updates at windowsupdate (17 total).

1 Beginning in Windows 8, Microsoft began releasing regular, major updates to Windows 8. Service packs will not be released. 2 Windows 7 SP1 and the April 2015 Servicing Stack Update both must be installed prior to installing the Convenience Rollup. 3 Windows Vista SP2 can only be installed if you already have Windows Vista SP1 installed, which you can download here for 32-bit versions. Windows 2000 service pack 4 sp4 free download - Microsoft Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4, Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 Spanish, Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 French, and many more programs. Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Update Rollup consists of previously released recommended, critical and security updates for Windows 2000, rolled into one convenient package. Installing this item provides you the same results as installing the individual updates. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Upon rebooting, I got a bluescreen: 0x0000001e (c0000005)in ntoskrnl.exe kmode exception not handled (i shortened the hex for brevity). Brand new SCSI hard drives in a Dell Precision Workstation 620 that has been performing flawlessly otherwise. Latest bios, latest raid drivers and firmware. I wiped my tears away, and reinstalled 2000 server again.

Same sequence of events, same exact result. Being the stubborn sort, I redid the whole sequence again, and got the same result (and yes, I am aware that one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result). Next, I tried re-installing again, but stopping after SP4 and IE6SP1 and just going on my merry way. No worries, everything is fine, except that I now have a grossly under patched iteration of Windows 2000 Server. All my programs work, and this server isn't exposed to the internet, so for now I can live with it. Has been running stable for 12 hours now, all systems go. Cut to this afternoon.

I'm doing a Win2k Pro re-install on a different machine (Dell Precision 410), not because anything went wrong, but I was going to give it to a new user and I like to do a 'clean' install when I get the chance. Windows 2000 installed flawlessly. SP4, no problem. IE6sp1, piece of cake (and yes I rebooted in between each install).

As soon as I added all of the other critical updates from Microsoft, and then rebooted, presto!!! Same bluescreen as above, letter for letter, number for number.

Just for kicks I did it again, 2000, SP4, IE6SP1, but installed the Outlook fix first by itself, then ONLY the Rollup. Same ecxact thing. Stop: 0x0000001e. I notice that the rollup only came out on Tuesday, I started having this problem on Friday, and hadn't done any 2000 installs in the past three days. I have done hundreds of 3.11, 9x, NT4, 2000, Xp and 2003 installs over the years on hundrreds of PC's, and I have re-installed 2000 on these two machines at least twice prior to this whole brouhaha, without any problems whatsoever.

So I did a little poking around at Microsoft's site, just to see if there was anything out there aside from the usual generalities about my particular stop error. Lo and behold, there is a patch (Q890859) that is known by Microsoft to cause this particular bluescreen under certain (poorly defined) circumstances. They list a hotfix, but you have to call Microsoft support to get it D: » » Turns out that MS05-018 (Q890859) is included in the Cumulative rollup for 2000 SP4. I have reinstalled 2000 Pro on the workstaion, and I'm going to try installing the patches one at a time to see if (and when) the problem recurs, I'm hoping that if I install the patches one at a time and leave the bad one out the problem may go away.

In the meantime, CAVEAT EMPTOR!!! My advice is that you NOT apply the 2000 rollup for a week or two, just in case the problems I have been experiencing are widespread. Chances are if that's the case they will fix it shortly. Exactly the same problem as xixixixixixixi.

After analysis, I discovered that the Ntoskrnl.exe version is 5.0.2195.1 instead of 5.0.2195.7045 (version installed by the rollup). This apply also to other system files. I also noticed that the version in the windows dllcache folder was the right one.Showing that the WFP of W2K is not doing his job.

I know that the latest didn't work with some hotfixes and that's perhaps the reason of the problem. But I still don't understand where the files with the old version come from. Dlajoie wrote: 'You are so, so right I went through the same scenario and if it wasn't for your post I would still be re-building my server. I owe you a case of your favorite beverage. Hats off to you, thank you!' A liter of Patron Tequila will do very nicely, thanks I have noticed an item of interest since my first post. The problem did NOT occur when I tried to duplicate it on a PC that only had a single hard drive (no RAID).

It still seems to occur on ANY pc that has RAID (0, 1, or 5). I have downloaded all of the patches that comprise the rollup and I'm going to install every single one sequentially on a clean install of 2000 SP4 to see if there is a single update that causes the problem. That's going to be a lot of reboots but I guess somebody's gotta do it. Said by BigMadMo: Hi, thanks for the directions to uninstall this package. I tried to remove this from the console. Unfortunately I get a maeesage saying that spuninst.txt could not be opened. The file itself has 0 KB!

Is there any chance to replace this file with an other? I think the original instructions were a little mis-leading.

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Rollup 2 Download

The 'spuninst' that is in '$NtUpdateRollupPackUninstall$' is actually a sub-directory, do a change directory into this and 'spuninst.txt' is actually located in there. Threw me for a little while also - been a while since I used command line, GUI file managers are just too convenient! We have installed sp4 and the update rollup 1 on 3 win2k servers (2 are DCs) we now get the following error/warning: warning: multiple default gateways are intended to provide redundancy to a single network (such as an intranet or the internet). They will not function properly when the gateways are on 2 seperate, disjoint networks (such as one on your intranet and one on the internet) do u want to save this configuration? yesno i believe this is because we are using teaming.

Anyone else have this problem?

I posted some info about running modern software on Windows 2000 about 8 months ago. I was shot down by wannabe security experts.

Windows 2000 Service Pack 6

I'd be wary about mirroring that guy's video. He has a history of claiming copyright on his video content and having them taken down. Here's how you run modern software on Windows 2000: 1) Install it and update it. 2) Download, extract and install this: (November 30th, 2014 release Most recent) 3) Install software using the Application Compatibility Launcher in the start menu (You have to drag and drop.exe files into the Command Prompt window and press enter) 4) Don't update Windows (The package will disable Windows Update - and for good reason. Don't panic security experts) (You don't need the Unofficial Service Pack 5 or Update Rollup 2.

Their purpose is to update Windows 2000 easily. They contain no additional functionality.) (Don't install Update Rollup 1 if you have more than a single core processor. Update Rollup 1 has a bug that breaks Windows 2000's multiprocessor support.). More detail is needed on what this file contains and what its origins are. How does it compare to the unofficial service pack and rollup mentioned in the video? That is an archive file containing a homebrew Windows update package.

To enable modern software to run on Windows 2000, functionality needed to be added in the form of resources in system files. Programmes call upon these resources. They were ported one by one as needed from Windows XP SP2, SP3 and Vista and 7 system files. This package also contains a modified kernel with additional resources. The new kernel is responsible for most of the added functionality. This package also contains a few updated components for Windows.

I.e, Windows XP's Paint, Notepad and a few others. This package was produced by a dedicated team of enthusiasts who reside on various software forums. The package should be treated much like a Linux distribution, in the sense that it was created purely out of good faith, and comes with no warranty. If you find any problem with this software, it can be reported here: This package has absolutely no malicious intent!

This is in the video so I assume the function is similar in your preferred updates. It's the same. FYI, you only need to use the Application Compatibility Launcher once - when you install a particular programme.

Sometimes you won't need to use it even in that case. For example, if you install Firefox using the Application Compatibility Launcher, you won't need to use it to install Pale Moon or Thunderbird. Their installers will launch successfully. Not all modern programmes will work. Chrome won't work.

Office 2007 won't work. Firefox and its derivatives will work. The latest version of Flash will work.

So it's enough to get by, along with older software, such as Office XP. They do contain security updates, no? Again, how do these updates contrast with the file you linked above? I actually made a slight mistake: Benefit may be had by installing Update Rollup 2, since it contains system files that have been patched in the same fashion as the equivalent file in Windows XP. Again, there is dedication here. Update Rollup 2 can be downloaded here: It must be installed before Unofficial Update Rollup!

As for Unofficial Service Pack 5.1, it does contain security updates, but they are the same security updates offered officially by Microsoft on Windows Update. If you update Windows 2000 using Windows Update (or have installation media that is already up-to-date), you don't need to install the same updates again. It's pointless. Windows Service Packs were produced simply for convenience. Unofficial Service Pack 5 is from 2006. Version 5.1 contains more updates released after Service Pack 4.

These two packages differ from the aformentioned Unofficial Update Rollup since they offer no additional functionality to Windows 2000. Tue Sep 13, 2016 3:06 am Re-vamping this thread. Links are dead.all of them.

Does anyone has info on what they actually contained, or a copy of the files involved? Speaking of which, does anyone have a.safe. link for SP4? Not that I desperately need it, but wouldn't mind having it. Ajkula66 I know this is an old thread, but all of the dead Microsoft links can be access just by plugging the original links into the Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) I actually created a page years ago which consolidates all the Windows 2000 packages on one page, with the archive links (all packages are digitally signed by Microsoft): For older NT service packs (NT 3.1, NT 3.5, NT 3.51, NT 4.0) these never made it onto the IA.
