I have never been the type to pamper myself. This place pampers you so much and takes such good care of you, it is becoming a habit! Everyone goes above and beyond caring for you and making you feel spoiled. They do such a wonderful job on every detail.even down to the items in the spa dressing room. Since I was schedule for my hair, I brought my daughter, very last minute, to let her be spoiled, after the grueling schedule for school she has. Not only are they spoiling her, but they let me enjoy the brine room while waiting for my hair appointment. If you have never been here, you are missing out!
I went to a 5 star resort in Mexico and was disappointed by the spa after being pampered here. Don't wait for a vacation, come to this spa before your vacation!
Was very excited to finally use last Christmas gift from my husband which I had asked him to get for me. I used to go to the Salon when it was at Cheney and Route 1. I love doing spa days and really looked forward to visiting my past area. When I got to the Salon I was surprised to see the boutique area as soon as you walk in the door. Nobody acknowledged me for about five minutes as when I finally realized you checked in pass the boutique.
Once getting to that point three staff members were talking and I stood and waited. Finally, one staff member asked if she could help me and I told her I was there for the spa. She did escort me upstairs and let them know I was there for my 9:30 am appointment. The spa staff were great from check in to checkout. Aesthetically the spa waiting area needs renovation. The women's changing room is great with all the products and facilities, but disappointing no extra towels or water for guest.
The quality of the towels might have been good when opened but are now old and worn. The washcloths are no better. The transition room is terrible. Worn furniture cushions, lack of reading material and what there extremely old. The foot bath is overhyped nothing but feet in water.
The services were very expensive for the quality. I had the Rasul mud bath first and felt like I actually had no service other then taking me to room and meeting at door when service completed. My massage was great but therapist to chatting. The brine room sounded great but was very disappointing.
Lounge chairs were pool chairs and lighting strange. Chairs under lights to bright while trying to relax. Love the brine idea but room needs to be redesigned. Another shocker magazines in brine room, only two, were over a year old. In my opinion spa's are all about customer service and above and beyond treatment. This was extremely average and in desperate need of a renovation.
I still have a portion of my gift left but will try the Springfield location hoping for a better experience. This is a review of the spa area only - not the medical stuff and not the hair salon area. The locker rooms needed attention - showers were lined with little pieces of soap from other guests. (Eew) And there was NO conditioner (I came at about 6 PM). Used robes and slippers littered the restroom area. That aside - my actual massage was a REAL lomi lomi by Vicki who is a gifted healer. I had only had one Lomi Lomi ever before and that was on Maui years and years ago.
Vicki's came close. For $130 - not sure I would do this, but for the special price of $99 (plus a dear friend got me a gift card) - I was all-in.
The brine room is way overhyped- basically it's a lounge with annoying and ever-changing LED colored lights. The salt crystals are nice. They also have a real Rassul (mud) room and a Steamed Hay treatment (not my thing).
For an everyday massage - I would not waste the money here - it is soooooo expensive, but for aspecial treat - or a party with friends (that Brine room can seat 6 people easily) it's fine. They also throw in a complimentary foot soak (lavender or peppermint in a copper bowl of water. This place is a little gimmicky - but if the therapists are good (which they seem to be) - I'll go with it. Overhyped, overpriced and gimmicky - but deep down - a good spa.
And if you get a chance for a lomi lomi (Vicki is the only practitioner who does 'em) or a Lotus - try it out. You MUST tip in cash - so bring plenty. For a business 'recognized as the premiere day spa in the region' (as it says on their website), I expected a whole lot more. A few years ago I went here for balayage. During my consultation before the process began, I explained the color I wanted & the stylist seemed quite enthusiastic. Turns out, me explaining the color somehow conveyed to her that I wanted that color all over instead of as balayage even though I repeatedly said 'balayage' and 'at the bottom' while motioning to the tips of my hair.
I'm a laid back person so I actually just let it go. I paid and went on my way.

When I got home, I decided I had to speak up & I emailed Joseph Anthony, explained what happened & I asked if I had paid the balayage cost, or just a one color cost and they said I paid for one color & sent me a copy of the receipt that literally said 'Hair color' with the cost. According to the prices listed on their site, though, I had paid for balayage. Last month I went to Joseph Anthony for a manicure after having a less-than-stellar experience at another salon. It was the morning of my engagement photos & the manicurist nicked the index finger on my left hand and I bled the whole time. She literally painted the blood into the polish, then did another coat over it so that you didn't see it.
Also, I mentioned my previously bad manicure from another business & said the person there didn't even paint to the edges of the sides of my nails. She said 'why would you not cover the nail?'

And then proceeded to not cover the nail. I felt like I was hurried along because we didn't pause for enough time for my finger to stop bleeding. I offered to hold my hand up, to help the bleeding slow, and she said 'no no. I my boss saw you with your hand up.' And trailed off. She was already onto her next appointment while my nails dried & I left, so I ended up paying full price. I don't know if I would have gotten a discount had she walked me to the register, but I wasn't going to be like 'hey, she cut me, give me a discount' because it was an honest mistake but.
I want to like this place. All of my friends who have gone there rant and rave about how amazing it is, but I just don't get it. I'm actually looking for a spa to have a girls day at before the wedding, and while JA offers many packages, I'm extremely hesitant to book here. UPDATE: I emailed the spa regarding my experience. I received a response from Joe, less than 2 hours later. He informed me that new shower curtains and furniture were being delivered this week. Additionally he immediately mailed a gift card to the spa for the full value of my treatment.
Big thumbs up to Joseph anything for caring what their customers actually think and making effort to correct issues. I can't wait to visit again! This used to be the most relaxing and fabulous spa around. I went back today for the first time in over a year. The attention to detail and the focus on the experience has dropped significantly. It used to be the moment you walked in the front door, you were immediately transported into a state of relaxation with spa like smells and sounds.
Now when you walk in you are immediately bombarded with a pop of retail shop in the lobby. This is not the first impression I expected walking in and it did not set the tone for a relaxing experience. The attention to detail in the locker room and transition room was seriously lacking. The shower did not drain, so I was left standing in a pool of water.
The luxurious hand soaps have been swapped out for some bargain economy size soap. The bathrobes are no longer soft and plush. The shower curtains are sheer and falling apart. Leaving one feeling exposed. The transition room had 1 magazine. That someone else was already reading. The foot soak was warm when started but turned cold before anyone came back to check on us.
The seat cushions in the transition room were old and dilapidated, and so worn out there were actually holes in them. The coffee and tea machine was out of order. Everyone was polite but the staff was certainly not as helpful or focused as they used to be. Everyone seemed very young and had a certain look about them but lacked the ability to connect to the customers.
There were 2 positive points.they did offer a mimosa and my massage therapist did a good job. It was my first time with her and I was pleased with her work. I feel strongly that the full experience is what used to make this place amazing. You can get a good massage many places. The experience is what used to set this place apart.
Not any more. It's clearly time to return the focus to quality over quantity!!!
We were a group of 6 ladies who visited the spa yesterday for a bachelorette party (I traveled from NYC)! I have had plenty of massages and facials but this is the first time I felt like I truly experienced a 'SPA DAY'!!!! All of us had such a great, relaxing time. Everything about the spa was exceptional! The ladies working there were very friendly and checked up on us to ensure everything was going well. I chose the Vitamin C facial, which left my skin feeling so smooth! It was great being able to experience the Alpine Hay room, as well as the Brine Room.
Also, if you ever need to book a Spa party - Natalie Solem-Giberson was amazing! Communication is key and she did a great job! I would highly recommend this spa and I plan on returning!
